One of Karate BC’s long standing members wore GOLD at the World Police and Fireman Games held in August 2009. Kraig Devlin a well respected Fire Fighter from the Saanich Fire Department, near Victoria B.C., Kraig Devlin took the GOLD 85kg Senior’s Kumite. A tremendous effort with the level of competition facing each contestant from around the world. Great work Kraig.

Karate BC Officials Shine at World Police and Fireman Games being held in Vancouver BC Canada August 3 & 4 2010. Karate BC Officials are a major component of the officiating with respect to the games Karate tournament that has drawn full house audiences.

Police and Firemen from all corners of the world are present and the level of competition according to every source suggests it is very high both in kata and kumite.

It is also noted the level of officiating is world class and kudos to all the Karate BC members participating in these prestigious games that draw the largest sports audience only second to the World Olympics.

The final day of competition was yet another exciting day, which saw BC winning more medals!

Here’s the update for the final day of competition and other news from the 2009 Nationals.

We would like to wish a speedy recovery to Hamid Tarighatbin, Michael Houg and especially Ron Curran for injuries they sustained during the last day of competition. Ron Curran is currently at the hospital and will be returning home next week. Our thoughts are with him and his family.

On a much happier note, Victoria Barusic won the Female Junior Athlete of the Year. She received this recognition at the 2009 National Banquet. Congratulations goes out to Victoria for this wonderful accomplishment. She truly deserved it!

Lastly, the final day of competition brought our total team medal count to 47. Way to go TEAM BC and congratulations to ALL athletes who took part in this year’s nationals. We would like to wish good luck to the junior members who will be heading onto the Junior Pan Ams in El Salvador at the end of August. We are truly proud of you!

DAY 02 Karate Nationals Championships.
Day 2 of the Nationals is now a thing of the past, but definitely another excellent day at “the office”.

BC has racked up another 19 medals, bringing the total count to 40.

The governing body for sanctioned karate in British Columbia celebrates it’s 35th Anniversary 1974 – 2009.

This year’s premier event, the KARATE BC Provincial Tournament is being held
May 09 & 10, 2009 in beautiful Burnaby. B.C. at the B.C.I.T. Campus Sportsplex.

Two full days. KARATE BC members who have competed in Zone tournaments around the province match up to qualify for the Nationals being held in Calgary this coming July.

A special year being the 35th Anniversary, KARATE BC and it’s nearly 5,000 strong members welcome the participants, their families and friends. KARATE BC invites the public at large to attend and enjoy this high energy event.Karate is being considered by the IOC as an Olympic Sport. Watch contenders who may one day soon be there – going for the gold. Cheer them on to Calgary this year!
